After the City of Tyler executed a minerals lease for the development of gas reserves in the Lake Tyler area, a citizens group sued, claiming that the lease was void. Potter Minton was asked to represent the City, and aggressively defended the City’s action. A swift motion for summary judgment was filed, and the Court granted the City’s motion, upholding the lease (and thereby protecting the City’s bonus payment of over $1 million). Municipal attorneys Ron Stutes and Jim Hedrick teamed with the City Attorney, Gary Landers, to represent the City of Tyler.
