On Tuesday, August 4, 2015, the Literacy Council of Tyler hosted their annual fundraising spelling bee. There were 17 teams competing in this event.
Amongst the Potter Minton firm, secret ballots were cast for nomination for our team spellers. One attorney, Ron Stutes, and one senior paralegal, Jo Vallery were confirmed as our team representatives. Ron and Jo spent countless hours memorizing words from the spelling list.
On the day of the event, the Potter Minton tables were filled with much cheering and encouragement from our employees, whom were all dressed in our storybook theme of “One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish” by Dr. Seuss. As each round ended, the Potter Minton team was still standing, until there were only two teams left. The excitement was building, and the tension was high. The final word pronounced was S-A-S-S-A-F-R-A-S. Jo Vallery and Ron Stutes conferred for just a moment. Jo then took the stage, and with the utmost confidence spelled the word correctly, propelling the firm to victory!
Many thanks to the Literacy Council of Tyler for allowing us the privilege of participating in this wonderful event and for providing us with a trophy to take back to the office to store in a place of prominence.
