Michael E. Jones, Chairman of the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) and Managing Partner of Potter Minton, enthusiastically received the decision of the Sunset Advisory Commission to continue the TDHCA for an additional 12 years. The TDHCA is the primary Texas agency responsible for improving the quality and quantity of affordable housing, public and energy assistance programs, and colonia activities for low-income households.
The Sunset Advisory Commission noted that the TDHCA had “significantly improved since its last review and has displayed commendable effort to implement the changes adopted by the Legislature.” The Sunset Advisory Commission found that the TDHCA had implemented 90 percent of the measures that were outlined in Senate Bill 322, with plans to implement final 10 percent upon the receipt of additional information from the 2000 US Census.
TDHCA Executive Director, Edwina Carrington, complemented the Department’s governing board for its “outstanding leadership,” saying that, “the board played a major role in the process.”
The Sunset Advisory Commission reviews each state agency to ensure there is no duplication of effort among the agencies, that each is meeting its mission, and that state resources are utilized to the highest level of efficiency.
